Learned New Skill Today...Cauterizing a Bleeding Comb

ep.gif
The Wench! Poor Issac. he is such a good boy. He deserves to be sat down outside his pen with the women inside so the women can watch...then give him a big ole plate of treats and goodies. HA! That will learn em to be mean to him.

We tried flour. And cornstarch. And blood stop. And ice. And a bandage. And through all that, pressure. No dice. This was cut in such a way that it just would not stop. For almost an hour we did this, with my poor sweet Ike on my lap, being really very good for all we were doing to him, cleaning blood out of his nose and mouth, etc. Cauterizing it was the only way and it worked so well. His comb looks fine now.

Just went in to close their window down a bit in the Delaware coop and loved on Ike a bit. His comb looks good and he seems none the worse for wear. The comb point is black from the blood stop and the cauterization, but should be fine if the girls leave him alone.

Glad Isaac is going to be okay. People talk about mean roos all the time. Never about the hens that should be tattoed, wearing leather jackets and carrying chains.

Ike was stressed with me holding his comb for so long and us trying one thing after another to get it to quit. At one point he was panting and lowered his head and I was saying to him, "Isaac, don't you dare keel over on me! If you do, I'm done with Delawares!" After the bleeding stopped, he perked up and looked me in the face with a "Can I go now?" expression. After all that time, he didn't even poop on me, LOL. Did it as soon as his feet hit the ground.

Cayenne pepper will stop most blood flow quickly, almost immediately.

Should be available for personal first aid at home as well. Has saved more than one trip to the hospital for my neighbors who had a problem with bursting capillaries in her mouth...mixed a pepper drink and before she was done, the bleeding was stopped. Did it again so it wasn't a fluke. I've used the item on cuts almost requiring sticthes. Can be taken orally for internal bleeding as well.

On a person, the opening will be dark red from the pepper in the break. Not to worry, the body will eventually absorb it and the dark red will disappear.

Oh wow... I'm glad it worked!! I hate it when they don't stop bleeding. I hope it didn't mess up his comb too much!!
