yesterday i learned a broody pheasant is alot meaner then a broody chicken my pheasant was sitting on some eggs i dont think are fertile since my male died just a week or 2 into breeding season so i gave her some chicken eggs yesterday i went to see if she was taking care of them and i lefted her up off the nest not paying any attention since she usualy ran away i checked the eggs when i reached down to feel if they where warm i heard a hissing noise and looked there was my pheasant flattend out tail in the air i smiled like "aw cute" then she attacked me i went to get out of her room but she followed/flogged me all the way to the door so i had to make my way back to the oposite end of the room her flogging me all the way and make a run for it so she didnt follow me out the door where my chocolate lab was waiting

Pheasant hens can be rabid, when compared to chickens ...... as you have found out

What type of pheasant? I have 2 swinhoe hens that are broody and I can reach under them with only a few little pecks at my hand. About half of our goldens get defensive of their nests when broody the others are calm.

its a ringneck which brings me to my next question since alot of ppl say they dont go broody often would it be safe to assume this pheasant will go broody next yr too since she has done it once

"aw cute"

SORRY, BUT THATS FUNNY! THANX I NEEDED A GOOD LAUGH. YES YOU'LL FIND RING NECKS A LIL MORE AGRESSIVE WHEN THE BROODY BUG HITS THAN SOME OTHER SPECES. (LOOKING DOWN AT THE NEW HOLE IN MY HAND AS I TYPE) I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I DIDNT GET LUCKY ENOUGH TO DO THE FLOG THING.... MY GIRL JUST LATCHED ON TO THE BACK OF MY HAND LIKE A 4 POUND SNAPPING TURTLE WITH SPURS AND WOULDNT LET GO! SOMEHOW IN MY MAD PANIC TO FLING HER OFF SHE MANAGED TO TAKE A PIECE OF ME WITH HER. NOT TO MENTION THAT MY FOREARM LOOKS LIKE I HAD A FIGHT WITH AN UNRULY CAT WITH A LONG STANDING HISTORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS

OH AND MY CHOCOLATE LAB WAS WATCHING THE WHOLE THING TOO.... I THINK I HEARD HIM LAUGHING IN THE BACKGROUND.

Dang Brother! Dats gotta hurt! My hens haven't done the "broody" thing yet... But I may need to put a "Beware of Broody Pheasant" sign on my pen... Maybe...
