Learning curve for backyard quail

So last night I made a 2’x1’x1’ box since we are at 26 degrees with 10 degree chill factor and out below upper coop. Quail seem to like it and this morning I checked on them and not using it. Pics show them checking it out and their little ball group this morning. Do I just need to wait to see if they use it? Remember lost 6 to possible elements 3 weeks ago. So far all alive. I’m trying, fill like an over protective father.
