Learning to ship eggs any one want some freebies?

Thanks to everyone who contacted me! Eggs are being collected and readied for shipping
So let's be clear... are you NPIP certified to ship legally...

or just trying to get all backyard chickens deemed illegal by the federal government since folks won't follow the law and comply... possibly spreading disease AND threatening our national food supply chain.

To all folks who receive illegal eggs or birds... educate yourself and protect YOUR flock by not doing that. ;)

If you are serious about chickens and care about folks... do the work to get legal... here is a link to the state agency contacts to do so. No excuses!
OfficialStateAgencies NPIP

ETA: if you know of someone breaking this law... protect our flocks and report them!!

The NPIP is technically a voluntary program, however, if you want to sell, move or show your chickenslegally, you must be NPIP clean. If you are a casual backyard chicken keeper with a confined flock as your own pets/egg producers, NPIP certification isn't something you necessarily need to concern yourself with.Mar 29, 2018

It seems to me that the above would apply to someone testing shipping methods before selling eggs in a larger enterprise. A friend of mine in the technical quarantine area in the L.A. County area that it was perfectly acceptable to receive and hatch eggs even though chickens were a no go. This opinion was from the CA state vet.

Yes. I received eggs and hatched four out of five. They are healthy 10 week olds now.

It's true that NPIP is voluntary... if you aren't shipping OR transporting across state lines. But it include all birds AND hatching eggs. Your friend should seek another vet as that one is clearly an idiot and I would have no problem telling them so. At least your friend asked! :highfive: Unfortunately they were given very bad information. :hmm Thing is in every profession... someone graduated at the bottom of the class, barely skating by. :he

Eggs are included in the quarantine, state government link...
https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/animal_health/newcastle_disease_info.html

Taken from that link...
"One of the conditions for movement ofpoultry, eggs, supplies and other items that can spread vND, is approved and verified minimum biosecurity as outlined in the Secure Food Supply Guidance and Plan Template. If a farm is not meeting these biosecurity standards, movement permits will be revoked."

VND can be spread through hatching eggs according to Merck, a very reliable veterinary resource....
https://www.merckvetmanual.com/poul...virus-infections/newcastle-disease-in-poultry

Taken from Merck link...
" Virus is shed during incubation, during the clinical stage, and for a varying but limited period during convalescence. Virus may also be present in eggs laid during clinical disease and in all parts of the carcass during acute vNDV infections."

From a non NPIP shipper??? In the quarantine zone or in your own state? Since you say your birds are "healthy"...

Taken from state link...
" Other birds may be infected, but may not show any symptoms and may still be able to spread the disease"

Federal link...
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ou...ease-information/avian/virulent-newcastle/vnd
Taken from link...
"The disease is so virulent that many birds and poultry die without showing any clinical signs."

It seems to me that the above would apply to someone testing shipping methods before selling eggs in a larger enterprise.
No, it applies to EVERYONE who is selling, shipping, or even giving away any fowl across state lines... EVERY state has import/export rules that apply to both pets and agriculture... IF crossing state lines.

Most "larger" enterprises actually understand the risk to their own livelihood and follow the guidelines and rules set forth. It's the small timers that think they have little to no impact or culpability that will continue sharing and spreading disease... until ultimately the government takes yet one more freedom away from us. Every law that's in place is there for a reason whether we understand or agree with it or not.

No, I'm not a vet... but yes, I'm willing to go against some if I feel they are misinformed. Just like everyone else, they are human and they make mistakes.

It's up to us to be vigilant and protect ourselves... even other BYCer's MAY put you at risk due to their lack of knowledge or understanding. So spread the word about bio-security AND following the law! :thumbsup
