I had 21 RIR hens and 3 RIR roos. I noticed that some of the hens were getting feathers missing from their back. After reading on here about all the things that could cause this I got rid of 2 roos, made sure they were getting enough protein and didn't suspect mites because all were not effected. The 2 roos have been gone about 2 weeks and all hens are regrowing feathers. I learned it is easy to catch chickens off the roost and not easy to keep them in a cage when you open the door slightly, they don't go slow when leaving. I also learned they are hard to catch when on the run after being in a strange cage overnight. I also learned some more patience. They don't grow feathers overnight.
At least the remaining roo is occupied.

all good lessons

Thanks for sharing. These are good things for me to know as I start my own flock.
