I had a little hen go broody in Nov, and let her keep anything she had as of Dec 1st. The first one hatched new years morning! 31 days it took her.
Tho it sems to be the only one, we have stuffed a few from an incubator under her to hatch in the next day or so, and she is happy as can be with baby and eggs!
I almost gave up too, but that one egg just kept candling dark, so I couldnt toss it out! Give her time, until she gives up, then you really know it is dead.
