We are starting to get a ton of leaves--with a bunch more to follow. Can I use these in my run and/or coop? I have been using the deep litter method and know I will need to clean it out before fall. Figured the leaves may be perfect to put in the coop and my garden would love it in the spring. But don't want a huge mess on my hand if it goes horribly wrong. Don't want to reclean the coop until spring.

I read somewhere of a woman who used an enormous quantity of leaves in her coop. Over the winter she tossed in scratch and the chickens stirred up the leaves. Apparently she had decent compost by spring. She was from upstate NY, so I am guessing she had maple leaves.
