Leaving Kids in the Car

I think there's definitely an acceptable age but it depends on your children and the surroundings. I for instance won't be making my children come into the store with me when they are preteens......

It's illegal to leave young children in the car here. A few years ago there was a big deal when a guy left his kid in the car while he was in the post office. The car was stolen with the kid in the back seat. The father was in more trouble than the guy that stole the car.

Horsejody is there an age limit? We have deaths every year from kids left in cars in the heat. I just cant do it...even if the almost 2 yo grandson is asleep. If I go in so does he!

I would NEVER leave my kids in the car in the heat.

On a day like today (temp 50 give or take) I dont see so much wrong. I would have cracked a window, locked the car, and taken the keys.


It just takes a lot of extra time to get two children out of car seats, hold ones hand while trying your best to hold on to the thrashing wild child, then wrestle them back into the seats.
A one minuet task quickly turns into 10 mins and leaves you a little (how do you say nicely?) frazzled

There has to be an age limit. But really. Anything can happen in an instant. You leave the kids in the car. Lock the doors. You run in. You have a heart attack. Can't tell anyone the kids are in the car. They're too little to open the door. They die. It is a law. For good reason.

imo... if you can still see them there not alone..... If you can't see them you shouldn't leave them alone.

Don't I know that and breathless...I cant wait till he can walk and do all that for himself..lol!
sarahfair...to clarify I would never think in a million years that you would leave them in the heat...or any other elements.

Ok so youre home alone. Divorced. Have heart attack. Kids too young to call 911. They Starve. They die.
Youre driving your car. You have heart attack. You crash. Everyone dies.

Actually my sister was arrested for leaving my kids in the car when she ran in to pay for the gas cause her card was declined at the pump. However, WE were ALWAYS left in the car!!!!

Sometimes I think people are TOO uptight.
