So, I read the info on the site here, about laws for Lebanon, OR, and it really just sounded like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.. The nitty gritty is , no roosters, no max allowance for hens. You need to go to the city of Lebanon office and get a petition and application(which the application is only 1 page) and have your neighbors within a 300 ft radius to sign it saying that it is okay if you have them. For us it was 36 names, and we couldnt even get all of them, cause 6 people wouldnt answer their doors. We still got the permit (which is needed to keep your chickies) because we made a good faith attempt to reach them (three visits to their house). If you want to build a coop, you only need a building permit if the structure is going to be 200 sq. ft or bigger. We were fortunate to not need one, because we already had a large garden shed on our property and we are just converting it into a coop. So thats it. Go down to the office and pick up your petition and application, get those signatures and turn it in asap! We got all of ours in one day, and turned in our app and petition the next day! And our permit was approved that afternoon!

Oh, and be as friendly as you can to the people down at the office! A little sucking up goes a long long way with these people!

Good luck!

I have just placed my order on line for a variety of excellent laying chickens and am looking forward to their arrival. Seeing you live in Lebanon, Oregon and own chickens, I have been trying to get a community organization put together for our little town. I have been trying to raise the communities interest in owning chickens and producing their own eggs and meat. If you are interested in meeting up about this, I would be excited to meet you. You would think that in a small town such as this encased with farms all around there would be more people owning chickens or other birds. Thank you for the information about what all I needed to do in order to own chickens here.
