Left my chicken out in the cold all night :(

When I went out to let my chickens out this morning I realized one of them was out, curled up under their coop. She must have been hiding last night! I have never done that and I feel so bad. It was cold and pretty windy all night. She seems sort of lethargic. I picked her up and held her and her heartbeat and breathing seem fine, she just had no pep at all. I put her in their nice warm coop out of the wind...is there anything else I can do? Is this something to be really worried about or will she likely be okay?

She'll probably be ok once she's warmed up a little and had something to eat. You could bring her inside if he condition deteriorates and give her warm water to drink and some food, I've done this a couple of times by accident and they always perk up in a couple of hours after having a nice drink and something to eat :)

Thanks. I may go out and bring her into the bathroom where I have a heat lamp. She is still the doorway of the coop, I can see her from my window. My rooster keeps peeking in there at her and the other chickens have gone and pecked her a little and then left. I'm worried about her. She is one of my best layers! I hope she is okay. Our plan is always with our layers to stew them when they are not productive anymore, but these ones are quite young still, so I am not ready for that!! Also she is one of the few my daughter has named. :/

I wouldn't put her under a heat lamp straight away, escpecially if she is going from a very cold place to a very warm place. This transaction could make her go into shock. Just wrap her up and keep her in the warm a while, make sure she has plenty to eat and drink as this will make her get better quicker. If you've kept her inside a couple of hours and she still feels cold, that would be when you could put her under the heat lamp.

Hope she gets better soon :)

Sometimes it takes a few hours to perk back up. If you have a dog crate, put her in there with a towel to lie on. Give her some scrambled or boiled eggs and clean water. That should get her perked back up soon.

alright I've given her some warmish water. She won't even open up her beack. She's sort of laying on her side with her head crooked...sort of how chicks have looked when they died. :( She's breathing, and when I touched her she flapped her wing a little and stretched her legs out but otherwise won't move.
