No need to be sorry! I was thinking along the same lines. I talked to a local farm friend and she gave me good advice. She said it shouldn't have been cold enough here last night to impact the chickens if they were left out. She advised that maybe something was already going on with the hen and maybe that's why she was isolating herself (hiding and not going in the coop, which none of them have ever done). My husband agreed and she seemed like she was suffering. So we put her out of her misery. That's farm life! My four year old handled it extremely well! Better than her daddy.
