Yes I left the window open in the coop, it's muggy and hot here and it has 1/2" square mesh wire to protect them for tonight with the window open to get a breeze, well now... ITS RAINING WITH PRETTY BAD LIGHTNING ...

What should I do in this situation???
The windows do not have any angle protecting the window itself ... so the rain could just go in....

Should I run outside like a maniac risking the lightning strike to save my chickens? Or is this ok..?

I'd probably shut the window.

My chickens stand in drizzle all day long, but you don't want blowing rain in the coop. They should be able to get dry in the coop, plus all the moisture in there will cause problems.

...but then again as I read BAD lighting...it isn't worth human injury. They can withstand rain especially in warmer weather. You'll have to muck out the coop tomorrow though.

Then look at top hinging the windows.
That way they can stay propped open all summer, unless the rain is blowing sideways.
