leg band fell off and I don't know what breed this is?

I totally agree about the attacks and am surprised that it seems far more common in this section than other portions of the forum. I guess pheasant folk consider themselves more elite. I don't know. As for importation and having been half way around the world numerous times, it is FAR easier to bring things into the country as a member of the military or other government corps than you would think. Gold, precious stones, animals, weapons, alcohol...all enter the country every day without proper checks and nobody raises an eyebrow. It is highly likely that someone could bring animals / eggs into the country without any problem at all. I didn't say it was legal, just that it happens all the time.

We are dealing with a WILD animal when discussing pheasants (as well as wild waterfowl, partridge, grouse, etc), personally, I feel classing them as "poultry" has led them to be treated as such. They have very different demands & care and if that makes me or others elitists because we believe that, so be it (my wallet sure as hell doesn't show it!!!!). The "elite" tag has been thrown around for years, so no biggie. Just remember, most domestic BREEDS can be bred back into existence - once a SPECIES goes extinct, it's gone FOREVER. Yeah, that's my major pet peeve - breeds vs. species - see all too often with GALLIFORMES.

When someone says they got birds, particularly a species such as one that is bad need of purity, from the country of origin, it does raise a lot of questions!! "Cuz" those of us who care about conservation aviculture would like to know if they are really from the wild, perhaps they could be placed in a breeding program to benefit the species. I know if I somehow received "wild" Amherst, I would disperse them to the "know it alls"!! I wouldn't keep any for myself, as I'm not a know it all, rather one who likes to continue to learn as much as I can and disperse what I have learned since many people just look at pics and say "pretty, I want one".

Your approach is commendable

It could be useful to post any breeding and/or studbook programs to benefit the species and how to participate in them.
