I'm going to be purchasing spiral leg bands for my chicks. Just wondering if anyone knows white sizes I'll need from day old to adult (large fowl) sizes in mms would be very helpful otherwise I'll need to convert

I see this is a post from February 2020. Did you end up finding the right size? What worked or what did you end up using.. I am trying to come up with a plan to sort my day olds that isn't zip ties. I feel the rainbow elastics may not be stretchy enough, and the hair tie one's are too big or too tight.

The rainbow elastics come in different sizes. I use the medium size ones for most chicks. I only have them on long enough until they are sold so I can tell them apart.
Older chicks I am keeping or growing out, get the thin colored zip ties. They will need to be changed as the bird grows and keep a close eye they don’t get too tight.😊

I'll see if I can find the medium sized ones. Mostly for day olds to keep them sorted for sale. I do have the thin zip ties, I just hate using the them.

How long are you keeping them? It might be a lot easier to use food coloring to mark them. That's what some hatcheries do if they mark chicks before they ship them. They put a drop of food coloring on the forehead.

I don't know what color down or how many groups you are looking at but you have many options for marking them. Even just using one color a drop on the forehead, the right side, the left side, the small of the back, the forehead and right side, etc. gives you a lot of groups. If you keep them long enough for them to feather out you will have to remark them, keep an eye on that, but you don't have to worry about a band getting too tight as they grow so quickly. I'd think marking them would be quicker than banding them. It would be for me.

I was using zip ties followed by spiral bands but then found a seller online here in Aus that sell some pretty cool expandable flat bands and clip bands. the flat coil can stay on the chicks for a few weeks, all you need to do it make sure they stay loose or you can up the size early to the clip bands and change as they grow. the photo is a modern game bantam with the smallest size, she wore that for about 3 or 4 weeks before it got too small and I needed to switch to the next size up

These rubber bands are the easiest and safest bands I have used for chicks and poults. https://dunlaphatchView attachment 2960815erypoultry.com/product/rubberband-leg-bands/
I get the multicolored bands I use different colors for specific varieties. I breed 9 different varieties of heritage turkeys, and some look the same as poults. So, these help keep different varieties separated for selling as poults. They are just colored rubber bands and very stretchy and safe + very easy to use, and come in 3 different sizes.
