Just received different colored plastic leg bands to put on my chickens so I can tell them apart for worming, etc., purposes. (I have 5 black and 3 white chickens - 10 weeks old). I got the appropriate size for their breeds. My son and I put them on immediately and the girls are all ok with them with the exception of one. She's pecking at hers and carrying on pretty vocally. I'm new at this and I don't want her to hurt herself - is this normal and she'll adjust? Or is it a really bad sign and I need to remove it? Thanks!

Mine pecked at it for half a day and then forgot about it- the leg band doesn't bother her now. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply! That makes me feel much better. I keep trying to convince them that they're just "pretty bracelets"!! They're not listening!

I just banded mine yesterday and they all were pecking at each others bands and trying to hop on one leg like it was going to kill them to step down. They were so funny to watch. I have a rescue hen in with them and I banded her leg too. She freaked out the most but I have two others just like her and want to know which is which when she goes in with them in about a month or more. Mine figured out they couldnt get them off after much trying with their own and each others and soon forgot about them. Just make sure they are loose enough that you can cut them off as they grow. I check mine every week or so. They grow fast!!

Chickens are so wierd...

That is really funny! Thanks for the info... I appreciate it!

who is a good supplier of leg bands ? ... thought I would get some to identify some of my different chicks/chickens.

I had only 8 and ordered 24 bands (3 each of 8 different colors - some for future use while I'm at it - chicken math you know..). I ordered them thru this website: http://shilala.homestead.com/spiral.html . I requested only buying the small amount and they did it. I believe they were a quarter a piece. You have to email them the order and I had trouble with their linked email. Used this one instead: [email protected] <[email protected] . They came in 4 days.
