Leg bands or (?) for chicks

Are there any leg bands that I can put on ten chicks that will last them all of their life. If not, do I buy a small size and hope to remember to replace it later; if so, how much later?

Do you like something else better than leg bands?

I have used colored zip ties. Now I buy leg bands. The birds grow so fast I just order the adult size of what ever breed I want to band. I have read of some one using nail polish on the birds toenails.

I used zip ties when they were chicks but checked them a lot since the chicks grow so fast. I put the bands on them when they were about 3 months old. The band were loose and a couple of the birds did manage to get them off but not at the same time so I just put the bands back on.

I just received my order of event bracelets. Thought I'd give them a try. I'll let you all know if they work or not.

I use these at the concerts I work, they will be HUGE for birds, they are meant for human wrists... they won't go small enough for chickens. Don't waste your money... you can buy legbands at eggcartons.com for cheaper or get in on the order I linked to above of a BYCer placing a large order.

My feedstore actually sells them too... but they dont have any small enough for my quail only chicken size and i can id all my chickens easily.

Thanks, Nancy, I'm going to order some from your URL. First I have to be sure of the size that I need. I "think" bbs Orpingtons take a size 11, but it "seems" that I read recently that they take a size 12.

No, what I got is different. This is what I got off eBay: WHOLESALE 500 TYVEK WRISTBANDS WRIST BANDS CLUB EVENT (I couldn't copy the URL).

I cut one short and wrapped it around my little finger and I think it'll work. I figured for babies I could cut them in half wise.
