Leg Bands: What size to order?

Hi! Sorry this post is old and I'm dragging it up again, but I am interested in the same thing!

@Kedreeva , you said the size 6 was a little big? Which sizes did you end up using as they grew? I was considering the zip ties, but would rather something that might be more likely to come off if they got snagged on something, like the colored spring leg bands. Would rather replace a band than lose a leg or foot. Highly unlikely in their brooder but, I have a feeling anything could be possible. I'll only have six little chicks, so think the multi-colors would be easier than metal bands with numbers etched in.

As little babies you can get away with using multi-colored rubber bands on their legs. We used those up until about 8 weeks old, you can find them in most dollar stores for .99 cents. They are used for children's hair or those rubber band looms kids make bracelets with. After that we went to the spiral ones. Interesting tidbit, red, orange and pink rubber bands get a lot of attention and pecks from the other chicks, blue, green, yellow, white and purple did not, they were mostly ignored.

We have banded our chicks with 1/4 inch rubber bands. They are 2 and a half weeks old. How long before we need to take the band's off due to being to tight? They can still easily be rolled up and down the leg, just don't want to take a chance on injury to one of our girls.
