i will post a picture later tonight when I get back home. But one of my girls has a section of scales that seem to be raised. I figure it must be mites, although I haven’t had this issue in the past, and I coated her legs in petroleum jelly.
I’m in CA- is there a medication I can buy for this or should I just soak her legs and keep coating in jelly?

The vaseline should work fine to smother the mites.
Apply once a week for 2-3 weeks.
The scales may take another few weeks, or more depending on how bad/long the infestation has been going on, to fully regenerate and look 'normal' again.

This is good advice. My birds haven't had leg mites but my neighbors birds did. I used Ivermectin. I poured it on their legs being sure to get it under the scales.

I use Hooflex therapeutic conditioner for mites and also just as an occasional dressing to keep their scales nice. It's a brown paste sold in large plastic containers for use on horses' hooves. If you know someone who has a horse, they may have some and you could probably beg a bit off them.

I just read something, by @dawg53 I think, about using Ivermectin for mites may make it ineffective for worming down the road.

Plain old petroleum jelly or vegetable oil works just as well for leg mites,
why use anything harsher?

Was curious about what this was.
Hooflex therapeutic conditioner.
Active ingredient, Chloroxylenol 1.5%.

Luckily the problem doesn’t appear as bad as some of the other cases I’ve seen so I’m using petroleum jelly 3 times a week until everything looks better.
Is it normal for the infected area to lose the scales? Last time I posted the scales caught my eye because they were raised. Now they are gone and her skin looks exposed.

heres a picture today

Not sure exactly how scales are replaced...it's not as drastic as molt.
I don't think it's unusual that scales shed, especially after an infestation.
Keep any eye on the area....keep taking pics, maybe we will learn from your experience.

Thanks. I am going to take more photos as the issue goes on. I’m also using the jelly on all the chickens as a preventive measure.
Chickens sure are a learning experience!
