I took this rooster to the the vet and even the vet wasn't sure if he had scaly leg mites or not... I have been spraying the legs with oil for over a month and I have seen no change in appearance. Could this be something else? Does anyone have experience and could give guidance in this situation? I greatly appreciate it.

How old is this rooster?

I would be inclined to work vaseline into and under the scales of the legs and feet to help heal them. Looks more like damage to the scales than it does mites.

What do you feed?

Thank you for responding. He is almost 3 years old. He is currently fed Nutrena NatuerWise Chick Starter.

He's not having any trouble walking is he?

I don't know about using spray oils, never tried them, but I do use vaseline on my birds legs and feet to help keep them conditioned.
No he has no trouble walking or anything. His legs have looked like this for a very long time and, due to inexperience, I used to just think that this was the way chicken legs look.

I tried the vaseline and it was very messy and I felt like I couldn't get it up under the scales. Some people suggested cooking oil and I liked that I could angle the spray up the legs under the scales. I would go back to vaseline if it makes a difference.

If he's not having problems then continue with the care that you are giving now if it works for you.
