Leg mites

How do I know when the leg mites are not on my chickens anymore?
I am putting Tea tree oil on them, how long should I do this?

Use it until their legs aren't scaly anymore. The scales should start to fall off.
Also, if that doesn't work, WD40 and Vaseline have been used to smother leg mites.

I have found that (with moderate / severe scaly leg mite), the mites will go (as evidenced by a new chicken being in there fore > 1 year but not getting them), but the scales will stay raised.

In other words, it's very difficult to tell.

Is Wd 40 safe to use ?
also with vasoline ? should they both be used to gether'
or one or the other?
