i've been told my new roo has leg mites. i just isolated him and going to start treating. i read you need to scrub their legs and feet with soapy water 1 time a day for 2 weeks, and after each scrubing rub in petroleum jelly.

any other suggetions?

That WD40 idea will work or Cooking oil or engine oil works great. It smothers the mites. Take a rag or cotton ball, liberally put oil on it, then apply it to the birds legs. Do this every couple of days or so until it clears up.

Don't use commercial oil like engine oil or kerosene. They have chemicals that are absorbed and can make the chickens sick. I learned the hard way. I use vaselene and seven dust mixed. One coating does it.

A chicken will fine if you rub a little oil, wd40, etc on it's legs and do repeat this several times to make sure you have gotten rid of the mites. Don't use one coating. If any are missed, they will reinfest the bird and maybe the rest of the flock again?

Out of curiosity, how long have you been raising birds littleoak?
