leg mites

what are the symtoms of leg mites?? i have some quail, they have bloody legs from the knees up, and don't know what is causing this , could this be leg mites?? if so, what do i do for them, they can barely walk??? also what causes leg mites, i have hay in there pen could this be it??? thanks, angie

leg mites come from wild birds. people. etc just like every other disease. only symptoms "I'VE" heard of is raised leg scales. i guess it could cause blood if they start picking at it. ways to treat -Dump their legs in olive oil. vegetable oil. or some sort of other cooking oil, spray their legs with PAM (this is the non toxic ways). Toxicish ways that i hear are used. with no problems but some people think its toxic (i dont know if it is or not). and dont like using it. -Spray WD40 on the legs, or some other type of spray on oils. Motor oil, etc...

Basically. just use oil to smother/kill the mites
