One of our Brahma chicks got a puncture wound on the back of its leg just above the foot about a month ago. We managed to stop the bleeding but for no longer than a couple of days. It keeps reopening and bleeding. It's clean and not getting any worse but neither is it getting better. We haven't tried any flour or powders yet, just non-stick gauze pad with self-adhesive wrap.

Welcome to BYC. Pictures may be helpful. Have you tried separating her in a dog crate with food and water, but kept with her flock? Do you know what caused the hole? I will be offline until morning, but will check back.

The wrap we put on two days ago is holding and there is no sign of bleeding . . . right now. We've seen this before. It looks good for a couple of days, a scab forms, and then it bleeds again. If it follows the pattern again this time, I'll post a pic.

Well, we've just kept at it with layering a trimmed down piece of non-stick gauze then a folded bit of regular gauze all held in place with the kind of stretchy first aid wrap that sticks to itself (love that stuff!). Instead of checking it daily we decided to leave it for a few days and just watch to see if it got blood-soaked again. Since I posted before we've only changed the dressing 3 times. I have to say that it's looking good! Yesterday we could tell the scab was shrinking and no new bleeding. Neither she nor the other chickens bother the wrap so we'll just keep this up until it's completely healed.
