I have a mixed flock and have some hatches from few days ago. 1 is a legbar but I am confused on the markings.
Do auto sexing marks become invalid and show up on both male and female like they would on 2nd generation black sex links where the roo is barred and female solid??
It did appear to have the alternating feathers on wings, and the wing feathers are comming in faster then others.
Any thoughts what this could be?
Am I correct that white spots can appear of both sexes 2nd generation?
Below are some pics at 4 days old.
It has dark chipmunk marks but has a white spot.

What breeds and colors do you have in your flock? if the chick is pure bred then I think it should carry to the second generation

Females have headspots too, but are generally abit less pronounced. Occasionally they'll have a very visible headspot, mine did as a chick.

Male's are supposed to be pale, & smudgy in color, with a bright yellow/yellowish white headspot.

Agreed. If autosexing isn't properly selected for you'll wind up with less clear markings. This chick appears to be a pullet. :)

Auto sexing breeds true to all generations.

Sex linking does NOT.

Autosexing breeds can loose that trait if not continually selected for.. in other words if you can't really tell clearly at hatch then they maybe should be bred forward. Select against ambiguity.

This is what a pure bred CC Legbar chick comparison looks like (from google)..

You can see the white spot on this gals head..

Wing feather sexing only works for certain breeds.. and I think fast cross to slow feathering.

IF that chick IS pure bred in the mixed flock.. I agree it looks like a pullet.

Hi everyone, here is a 3 week update of baby Bee.
At first I thought it was a leg bar, but now I'm thinking part Robin LOL.
But on a serious note, Im thinking she is turning out to be a she, even with the white dot on her head still slightly there.
Further thoughts?

Adorable! 3 wks still too soon to tell I think. In the next few day she should be six weeks. I think if you post a current pic we can help.

Here is Bee now at 6 weeks old. This chicken is developing a very docile and friendly personality. It hops up to be held, and loves to be held close and pet.
Needles to say my kids are loving it (her?)
It is fun to watch them grow as the weeks pass.
I will next post an 8 week update. :D Stay tuned...

On a side note... Here is the father Mr Dockadoodle. Very friendly Roo with a unique crow that's more like a chime. A fan favourite around here.
Still not sure which was the mother.

8 week old update of Bee.
No wattles dropping down or vibrant color like in roos at this age and no barring...plus the color pattern I'd say she is a she (that is if chickens are still allowed to identified as male & female genders🙄)

In 3rd pic, those other 2 are from same father, but the mother is a black sex link who lays monster eggs of which I figured to try to carry on as experiment since I was running the incubator to save the other eggs unexpectedly from that awful day. The one in the middle named slippers looks to be female as the other has the barring and has red wattles now. It will be interesting to see if egg color will be influenced from the legbar roo.
