Hi All!

My husband and I got some Cream Legbars last year and our first chicks started hatching yesterday :)! We are super excited about the babies, but we realized (too late of course) that some Araucana eggs might have gotten mixed in there. I think that the female Legbars and the Araucanas look very similar right now, anyone have any suggestions on how we can tell them apart? None of the chicks have dark legs like a pure Araucana, so there is a chance that they are all pure Legbars (or a few Araucana crosses lol), and honestly we are not sure that any Araucana eggs went into the incubator. Next time we are going to be more diligent :)

I'm not sure how early the tufts are apparent, but I'd think that would be an early indicator, that and the rumplessness. If memory serves, Aracauna are pea combed, so that should differentiate them from your straight combed Legbars. Legbars are also crested, Aracauna aren't.

Thanks Donrae! I figured that we would be able to tell for sure in a couple weeks when they start to feather, but I will have to research the face tufts (I like to call them mutton chops

) on the Aracauna. We have had Aracauna chicks before, but I cannot remember if they had tufts from the very beginning or not.

We had a pretty good hatch, so I am hoping that we got all Legbars. Although, I wouldn't be unhappy with more Aracaunas either.
