Luck. Hatchery genetics were also probably a bit better that long ago

Estrella always had reproductive issues though, never had an egg capable of hatching, and most the last several years were so brittle they'd break as they cooled down naturally

This yellow chick was the result of a black jersey giant rooster, and an ISA Brown hen. Since ISA Browns do not breed true I have no idea what breed this chick is favoring but I think it looks like a leg horn? I read that it's believed part of the ISA Browns make up is that of a leg horn... What do y'all think? Full disclosure I know nothing about leghorns.

With the exception of my pure bantam cochins, all of my chicks hatched next year will all have leghorn blood because Oliver is the main rooster.
