Leghorn Question

[Standard Hen]

I just got four leghorn crosses from different hatches so I would say between 4 and 8 weeks old between all of them. They are nut cases and I do hope they calm some. I assumed because they were mixed they would not be so wired but was I wrong. I open their little coop door and they come out of there like I am a fire breathing dragon.

Probably depends on what they're crossed with.

I love my leghorn.
Her name is Helen and she is blind in one eye. I got her from the feed store as a baby after her eye was pecked by the other chicks. She is easy to catch

and pretty much goes about her chicken business. And I love the super jumbo eggs she lays!

All I can say it THANK YOU for posting this information... we have been talking about getting some... but now... NO WAY!!!!! LOL... Not unless DH builds a HUGE coop to keep them in at all times!!!!!!

I love Obelisk dearly even though there's times I wanna wring her scrawny little neck!
Jerry was soooo much better, but he had been held and picked up since a couple of days after hatching...Obelisk I got as a 2 month old pullet in a pen with a bajillion other Leghorns as nutty as she was, flocking and swarming every which way.
She's definitely the Queen of the House too.
And some of her nuttiness has rubbed off on Penny...

Slifer didn't care one way or the other.
It's a Mediterranean breed trait though, Minorcas, Andalusians, Polish and Leghorns all need downers.

well it happened.. I knew it was coming.. My husband was feeding the Leghorns today and one of the hens got loose and took off like a bat out of "____" (well you know) .. we went off trying to catch her and the last time we seen the crazy ole girl she was running right straight into raccoon and opossum territory. I couldnt follow because the brush was way to low and thick.. I really thought she would come home at roosting time.. I had planned on selling them to get rid of them but I didnt want to see them get eat by something.. Crazy birds!!

We absolutly adore our leghorn hens. They are fiesty-and very smart!! But they are also alot of fun-and lay LOTS of big white eggs!! Ours are about 50/50. Half are really friendly-and the others still think i'm gonna wring their neck every time i look at them! Great birds! Recomend!
