Leghorn Thread!!!

Wish us luck over here, hatching egg arrived before incubator so I put the egg under my Easter Egger hen, with one of her own infertile eggs... she seems to be nesting... The egg is suppose to be a longtail. So fingers crossed.

I got 10 silvers from Murray McMurray recently. About half died in the first week. I had 2 other breeds in the order. 34 chicks total. I am down to only 16. That is the biggest lose from hatchery chicks I've ever had. I can only attribute it to maybe them being rarer breeds that probably have a narrow gene pool. Not counting the Leghorns. I really just don't know. Now that they are nearing the 6wk mark, they are tough little guys, and pretty friendly too. Curious to see how they mature out. As for Columbians, I only know of one person that has them. I think is John Hyreck in PA. He is not selling any at the moment.

I'd been wanting some of their Silvers. I'm eager to see how the ones left turn out for you!

As for Columbians, you got me digging on it (even though I'm not particularly interested in the variety—I just want good cuckoos now, lol) and apparently APA judge Curtis Oakes has a bunch of rarer varieties and Hyreck got a trio from him either last year or the year before. There was also apparently another guy that had worked on them for a bit and then moved on, but not before selling a bunch to a buddy for a laying flock which has apparently proliferated.
