The smallest black cockerel does not have white on his tail, but I do not like his size and type. Will keep him anyway.

Really liking this post.Thank you JD. I started this project 2 years ago with my fat, Minorca-Rock looking blacks, breeding them to whites. Got all white color babies. Breed those babies back to white cock. This produced all white birds, but some of them had black feathers here and there. I was hoping that those birds are only 50% dominant white. And that hope came to be truth. When I got cock who had 82% white blood and few black feathers, bred him with his sister who also had black feathers. That is the 82% cock:

Bred this barred boy back to black hen and got the black cockerel and 2 black girls. 2019 I am going to breed the black boy back to barred and white hens. There is one blue barred hen, so I am hoping to get some blue leghorns.
Other project I am starting is Birchen Leghorns. I have one birchen half leghorn girl to start with.
Seems like I am very busy, but actually not so much. But for sure am having fun.And I am not hurrying at all, no matter that the white tail feathers are driving me crazy. I call them 10 years projects.
Thank you Moonshiner, your treed has been real inspiration for me. Leghorns are really nice breed and you Americans have perfected them so much. We still have very nice Browns, Buffs and Whites, but other colors need more support.Really liking this post.
Don't often see anyone working with colored leghorns.
Thanks for sharing.
Yes, Duckymark sound like Leghorns. They can be wild and destructive in certain situations, but also can be calm, trusting and curious. No matter how many times they will fly out, I forgive them, because they are so beautiful.I have 3 brown leghorns pullets.they are about 5 weeks old and are the most hateful aggressive and destructive birds I have. The water is always knocked over, the meat birds were bloodied and I had to separate them and my cat is missing fur from the chicken pecking. I put them in with some similar aged polish, marens and faverroles. They must have just not liked Cornish cross or cat. They calmed down and are doing fine now.
"You Americans"? Where you from?Thank you Moonshiner, your treed has been real inspiration for me. Leghorns are really nice breed and you Americans have perfected them so much. We still have very nice Browns, Buffs and Whites, but other colors need more support.
Thank you so much for that. That's like the coolest compliment.Thank you Moonshiner, your treed has been real inspiration for me.
