Leghorn Thread

Pics
Looking around BYC local keepers and several other sources I can find a fine example of just about anything that might be wanted,

But not an every day industry leading white leghorn roo,

Wow, what is this?

i think most people buy production white leghorns from the hatcheries... and of course they are SUPER cheap from the hatcheries, the boys even less expensive, because no one wants them.

That is a thought, do you live anywhere close to a hatchery? I think the hatcheries let you pick up chicks... at least some do...

No local hatchery. I was really hoping to find a breed ready bird for my egging girls. Something middle of the road for appearance and conformation.

I have 2 polish roo on them, for company really, they would make an odd looking leghorn though lol.

I always Wounder when reading about certain birds being less available. Not in this case however.

I'm simply not finding what one would THINK IS an extremely common animal ANYWHERE.

Whit lh are the most common layers in the US. Numbers in the millions. ?Where are all them roosters going?

yes how old are they? I got a couple leghorns and one bared rock that are suppose to be 23 weeks old, they look very young. wound they be about to lay? my other girls are 15 months old now and I got them at 22 weeks old and didn't think they looked this young? Not the best of photos but do these look like 23 week old leghorns and rock to you?

I'm very excited. I finally have a leghorn in my flock. I really wanted a duckwing or a silver or a light brown one, but instead I ended up with ye old hatchery white... But after two years of "fancy" colored eggs, I'm really thrilled to be getting white eggs in my nest box at long last. Hooray!

The white ones might be less exciting in body color, but they are the best egg layers ever!

I also really like the white eggs to brighten up the brown ones.

I think you leghorns are really pretty birds and I don't understand the part about wondering whether they are worthy of breeding. What about the fact that leghorns are great layers and you get eggs from them daily.
