Some of my silvers.
I made mine. Was crossing one of our cuckoos over light browns for a project and hatched out a couple silvers along the way. Then used them with the browns for a couple generations.
Its kinda come full circle because now im using them back to cuckoo to get cuckoo silvers.
Breeding is fun.

Quote: This is somewhat funny. Going on nearly 50 years ago a boyfriend and I had quite a few of White Leghorns. We decided to part ways so we invited all of our friends over for a party. We processed the poor little White Leghorns. There was no meat to speak of but we had to get rid of them so we thought we would eat them. The joke was really on us.

I'm trying to sex my leghorn chick. Chickaletta is between 3/4 weeks. I've been told that its most likely a cockerel due to the large comb at an early age. But all the pictures I'm seeing on this thread shows that even Leghorn pullets have big combs.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but the females tend to get their tail feathers first in most breeds. You can see the tail in the top picture.
Female

Male

Leghorn pullets can also pink up WAY earlier than is typical for other breeds. I have had a couple of girls pink up so early that I thought they had to be male.

My point...wait until they get the sex feathers in, then you will know for sure.

I finally got m y Brown Leghorn chicks from from a breeder a couple of days ago. They are doing well. I sold the Partridge Rocks I got last year from someone selling them to me as Brown Leghorns. Now I can watch these grow.
