Where can I find those colors, I would like to have two pullets of each for "Loudmouth" maybe he would have too much to do than crow all day long. I feel sorry for him because his brother "Jock" will not share his hens.

It is a bit difficult to find the non-standard colors. I just googled, and this one hatchery says it sells the Exchequer color, of course not right now, but in the spring. http://www.californiahatchery.com/Exchequer-Leghorn-Chicken-_p_60.html

Other than that, you can order eggs from BYC or ebay, or try to find full grown hens at poultry shows or chicken swaps. For those, you would have to look around in your area and see what is available.

Good luck!

I bought myself some 8 wk old Dutch Brown Leghorns this year. They are 8 months old now, are not molting, and have not laid eggs yet. Is this common for this breed?
Chickens like all birds are light sensitive. Are you adding any lighting to their building? they need a good 12 -14 hours of light in order to keep or kick in the laying cycle. Our darkness is at about 7 PM. My birds get light turned on from 5 AM to 8 AM. For some reason I had to start earlier this year than ever before. I was getting 24 eggs a day out of 30 birds and with in two weeks it dropped to 10 added lights and I am now back up to 24-30 a day out of that pen.

Hello, below are some photos of our 7 leghorn chicks at 5 1/2 weeks old
I'm new to Leghorns so was wondering if some of you with experience could say what you think we have in regards to number of Hens and Roosters?
Colours we have are 3 blue, 2 black and 2 splash
From what I can see, only one of the splash ones has a substantially bigger comb than all the rest, all the other 6 have pretty much the same size combs so fingers crossed only 1 rooster...

I can't help. In general, I tell people that if there is any coloring on the comb at and early age, then the bird is probably a boy.

However, my leghorns have managed to trick me.

My bet would be to keep an eye out for pointed feathers at the neck or base of the tail. Pointed feathers equals boy, rounded equals girl. However, you need to wait for the second set of feathers....so the first 'baby' feathers will be the same for both genders. I think the sex feathers start growing in at 12 weeks???????

Does my Brown Leghorn look like she is going to lay soon? She is 25 weeks old and still no egg. She isn't squatting yet and I know for sure she hasn't laid any yet.

her face looks nice and red.... so she should start up soon. It is just that the shorter days of fall slow down the maturation process.

I figured that might have something to do with it. We just set a light up on a timer in the coop so they have 14 hours of sunlight. These are my first ever chickens so I'm not sure exactly what they should look like or when to expect eggs. I'm newwww haha
