Leghorn Thread

It is easiest to look at her on the eggs, just make sure that she can fully cover the eggs, maybe minus 2, to make sure.

Sorry... no set number, depends on the hen.

Congrats though! A good broody is fun!

Thanks for the info.
Yeh I can't believe it, the last couple of days she's been literally beating up my cockerel, he doesn't know what's happening, I assumed it was her hormones, but thought it couldn't possibly be! As I read Leghorns are one of the least broody breed of them all.
But alas, her feathers have been pecked from her breast and she's all puffed up and growling like a dinosaur :)
I build a separate box and pen for her today, it's the evening now so I'm going to move her in the dark.
She was sitting on 4 earlier, I recon I could pop maybe 3 more under there, she's quite petit and slim built.
She's quite scatty so I don't know how dedicated she'll be.

yep, no way to know until you try.

My EE sat on 9 eggs with no problem. She's not a huge bird so I would say 9 is a good number. Good luck with your broody! Mine did a great job, I was completely happy with her. She has been a great mom. Her chicks are 3 weeks old today.

Sorry I don't have one available. I wish I could have an extra cockerel to ship you one, but unfortunately I don't. I know how you feel I went thru the same situation.
