Leghorn Thread

Alaskan, the picture I showed you of the chicken that I'm saying I think is a leghorn is a cross. I think the male part of her cross is a Ameraucana/EE. She has the muff an whiskers on her face, I sure hope that she is a pullet. She's 18 weeks now so should be getting close to the time I'll find out. At least I hope so. She acts like a leghorn. Very flighty, not friendly at all. She really is a pretty chicken I think anyway but if she doesn't straighten up a little I will have no problem with culling her for sure. Only thing I can say that I really like about leghorns is they lay an egg daily. Thanks for the input.

Looking for some excellent laying brown leghorn hatching eggs. PM me if you have some available and are willing to ship. Thanks!

For eggs, I would suggest trying the Facebook pages.

There is one that is just for Leghorns, and a second one that is specifically for brown leghorns.

There are a good number of breeders on both pages that will ship eggs.

I've been so surprised at the social nature of my pearle whites. Everything I've read said they were "flighty" and avoided human contact. This group of new birds (about 3-4 months old) are some of the friendliest and most social chickens I've ever owned. Several come up and all but beg to be held or petted. I'm really enjoying them. I'm amazed at how lanky and thin they are, nothing but feathers and bone but I guess that's what a laying breed is all about. Hopefully they will live up to their reputation of egg production.
