Leghorns Don't Get Enough Credit!!!

Ok, I'll admit, the idea of a Leghorn wasn't that appealing to me when we got chicks 8 weeks ago. But I wanted pet chickens that I could tell apart, so I got 2 Leghorns, and 2 Buff Orphingtons. Let me clarify what I meant by pet, a chicken who lays eggs, never gets put on the table, and who has the option to sit on my lap, but if not, no hard feelings. I named them Laia and Valerie. I liked them both, but Laia was my favorite, out of what was at that point 6, we got 2 more. Shortly afterwards, turns out flighty little Valerie isn't a girl as advertised. Ok, we live in the country np. Fast forward 5 weeks and we've heard a crow, we, whatever you call that noise coming out of his throat. He looks proud. Here are some pics, and even though their not laying me eggs, or chasing off predators, I love the breed! I will try to get away with a few more next year...

Awww! Leghorns are good chickens, especially leghorn roos which are the best roos I've ever had. Leghorn hens tend to be flighty, but certainly have personality, at least the leghorn hen we had did! She was my favorite Good luck on your chicken adventures!

One out of 2 of my nicest roosters is a White Leghorn His crow is horrible (think prepubescent teenager) even though he’s over a year old, but nonetheless our favorite.

He had a "mood swing" last night, I must have startled him, because I walked into the run to close up the coop at night, and sure enough, he runs out, puffs up his feathers, and circles me. I crouched down, and he settled, after he gets scared, I've found it calming to stroke his chest near his wattles, and so I tried it and he bit me! He didn't peck, but clamped his beak down on my finger! He then looked startled with his actions, and ran into the coop. I grabbed the bag of oats, that I always give them at night, and headed in the people entrance. Sure enough, he was first to greet me as always lol. I think he is sorry.

Aw poor confused little dude just keep handling him and scoop him up if he gets saucy. As you previously stated you caught him off guard so that’s not necessarily an indicator of his future attitude. I hope he stays friendly
