Leghorns

Absolute Italian(German term for leghorns- they only call the white "american" production birds leghorns over there) Fan here too.
I think the whites are the freakiest, my buffs are so-so since they were not handraised but were raised by a pretty shy free ranging kraienkoppe hen that i slipped the eggs under. So them not being that calm is to be expected, that said my buff hen had a secret nest and I found it and stole half the eggs to hatch(left the rest so she keeps laying there) but she knew I messed with the nest. Havent been able to find the new nest until last week cause missy went broody! So I followed her agitated fluffly butt to her hideout.

Meanwhile out of the 10 eggs I stole 2 were duds and the 8 fertile ones all hatched and I am raising them in the house right now so they should be pretty good.

My Silver Italians are pretty mellow, my Black breasted and blue breasted Italians are good but they are psychic and know when your thinking of grabbing them then they are GONE!

The blacks are mellow except for my oldest hens, they are freaky like a white legger. My old black roo was a cuddle bug tho, he never minded being picked up and pet.

Best producing of all the colours I've had/have were always the blacks, no matter if -40 without supplemental light or hottest summer on record those girls are not phased and keep giving me a med white egg every day.

Wow, that makes me feel sooooo much better! I recently purchesed two Leghorn Hens named Yoshi, [after the mario character because Yoshi is BEAST!] And Mrs. Flopperz, because her 'crown' i call it flops down over her face, over, and over, and over, again! I am relived to hear that they are egg laying machines, and that they are very very pretty as i have seen out of mine and other BYC members pics, they are really awesome! The only complaint i have about them is that they seem to be very agressive towards other breeds of chickens, and other BYC members have reported there Leghorns are the bullies of their flock, plus my own proof! My Leghorns were placed in there pen, and we left to go shopping for awhile, when we got back the two Leghorns were in the babies! We thought all was well untill my mother picked up our teen Silkie mix, Spex, and his neck drooped back like his back was broken!

We knew he would not survive the attack but he held on for over four hours heartbeating slower and slower by the minute, eventually he began to throw up because he could not breath, and died in my mothers arms............

I have one leghorn and she is awesome!!! If you want a good egg layer leghorns are the ones. She is about six months old, she just started laying a week ago and she lays an egg every day. Leghorns are very sweet and gentle in they're young age but I am not sure about they're behavior when they become a hen. Also my leghorn is about 4 pounds right now but she will probably become about 6 or 7 pounds in a few months. If anybody has any questions about any chicken feel free to ask!!!

NOt my fab breed because the can not be vary nice may be good layer
I heard of someone and there little son was vary much not liked by the leghorns and they went after him
