Leghorns

Quote:
i have 3 leghorns and 1 has gone broody several times in the past year and a half she hatched three chicks out for me. the others want nothing to do with them. its usually breed out of them but now and again i guess you just get one that wants to be a mama.

I have two white leghorns. They have started laying in the last month.. They have not missed a day of laying since. I always can count on two white eggs daily. I do worry about them as they have big floppy combs, small bodies. I hope they will survive an Alaska winter. They have more personality then all of my chickens put together.

They are not know for it, but mine went broody a month after she started laying. I broke her of it the first time (nearly two weeks in a cage), then three weeks later she was at it again, so I got her some eggs. She has been a great broody, only getting up once a day, and so far she seems to be mothering the chicks pretty well. I sure was nervous about letting a Leghorn give it a try with the reputation they have, but so far so good!

And I agree with chickenbottom - she is a funny funny chicken.

I have two of these creatures and I can count on 2 white eggs every day. Once a week I get a huge jumbo + egg the heaviest has been 3.5 oz. It amazes me that they are the smallest chicken I own and lay such a huge ( gosh that smarts ) egg.
