Leghorns???

Ok thank you!! This white bird is my oldest sons. I got a chick for each of my five children and one for myself. He likes his bird and I'm sure he will handle it often. Any little tips help, so thank you!

yeah, ANY breed could be mean, As long as you handle it often everything should be fine :) We have 2 ( maybe 3)leghorns so we are trying to handle them everyday just so they arent scared of us. o far so good! especially when we have worms ;)

I have 3 of these. One has a dark mark on it's head. This one has that black stripe by eye but others don't. They all have striped feathers and are a rust color. Two have darker spots on their backs.
looks a ton like my cherry egger, mine has a dark mark on it's head

What on earth is a cherry egger?? I had myself convinced the three were all production reds. Lol. I think I'll never know what my various chicks are!

Cherry eggers are I believe yet another version of sex links..or they might not be sex linked can't remember, but they are a newer hybrid for laying eggs. Rir and something or other. It seems like a lot of hatcheries are coming up with more hybrids all the time. I have to wonder if it is so we have to keep buying chicks from them as opposed to just hatching our own new chicks

Well it seems like mine are definitely rhode island something or other! I guess time will tell! I'm thinking black star, red star and white leghorn for the other three.

Oh!! Well in that case I think I shall call mine cherry eggers because that sure sounds much nicer than production reds!! Makes them sound like little feathered machines that pump out one egg after another instead of pets! Thanks for telling me!

So they like worms?? I just had a worm outside today my son found. Is it okay for the chicks to have? Poor worm! I have so much to learn. I know people are probably thinking "why didn't she figure this all our BEFORE she got the chickens?" but I'm one of those learn as I go types, lol. I can't learn anything until I do it myself.

oh yes they LOVE the worms we gave them. they went nuts! we gave them live mealworms but after reading about how they can hurt the chicks and you should rip the head off we started giving them the freeze dried kind from our local TSC.
