Lemon cuckoo Orpington questions

Honestly I don't think LCO are shown. Also I know if all the smut is gone from the tail the the shaft of the feathers will be whiye then. So another problem as well. I will be working with type this year.

the best way to fix this issues would be to keep backcrossing them to Quality Buff orps... its a rather easy and streight forward program to do

That is what is was thinking on doing. So crossing them back over the EBO, then breeding back will help the type. So will the double barring will remain only in the roosters. As od now my hens are double barred.

let me explain you how EASY this breeding program should be..

let start with the fact that is: Lemon Cuckoo Orps are just Buff Orp with the sex linked barring gene, thats it. so if anybody has issues with type, color(blackshowing on tails) the easiest way to fix this is to outcross to good quality Buff Orp pair.

this is how its going to be.

LCO male x BO hen

Select the best barred F1 females and cross them to Buff Orp Males.
Select the best Barred F1 Males and cross them to Buff orp females.

at this stage they should have regained good Buff orp qualities. and you can continue breeding the best barred males with the best barred females..

Females cant be double barred, they only have one copy of the Z sex chromosome where the barring gene is located. their other sex chromosome is W. so females are ZW and males are ZZ(thats why they can have two copies of sex linked genes) the W chromosome in the hens is as useless as our own Y chromosome in humans, small and almost void of usefull genes

Okay so the hens that don't show barring are what? Mine show barring like the males, light color as such... now a friend of mine said hers has faint barring?? very confused now

the females that dont show barring is because they dont have barring, they are just Buff Orp hens... faint barring is due to other genes affecting the color of the buff birds... remember its always a must to keep the buff orps or any other buff birds from getting too diluted or faded

Okay,so a while back I lost my rooster from Richard so I bought the ones post in an earlier post. The younger one is more to type. So I was gonna use one of my good EBO hens to cross back over to correct the smut/type issue? What you think. Mind you I'm not selling this is just for me.
