I have two hens, one I bred and one is bought in as a stock bird. The stock hen has 12 offspring and the homebred one is a year old and has infertile eggs last year. The stock cock got out and flew away leaving the stock hen alone and the homebred's mate was found dead on the floor of the loft about 6 weeks ago. So, that's their background.

I wasn't paying attention to who was pairing up with whom, as it's happening like billyo at the moment with the increasing daylight. Two eggs hatched yesterday and I got the ring numbers off both parents. Guess what, two females with breeding history. So, now I don't know who the father is. Is this normal, I never saw this with pigeons before. I've seen threads with a pair of hens sitting on infertile eggs, but in this case one hen has gone off and done the necessary. I'll have to sell the youngsters as I don't know who they are related to.

I have a very modern and inclusive loft now.

I had a pair of hens whose eggs were fertile, there's always a willing cockbird to "help". Lol

Hahaha! It's not unheard of, happens all the time in zoo animals actually. Sometimes the "dad" is really just a "donor". ;) For that matter, sometimes you get two dads and the mom is just a donor! It happens.

It’s okay, I have a pair that isn’t really pair. It’s two males and a female. It’s kinda crazy. The guys will have their way with eachother too. It’s very very odd for pigeons
