let her hatch or break her broodiness?

We let our broody have five eggs. She hatched four and three chicks survived. I have her and the chicks in a rabbit cage on the floor of our coop. She's doing a great job keeping the chicks warm and teaching them how to be a chicken. It's cute to see two peaking out from under her and one sitting on her back.

The only issue I can see with letting a broody have a clutch is one of space and room. Do you have room for more chickens? What will you do with the spare roos? If you have that resolved in your own mind, then by all means. Let her go!

That's a good point about the extra roosters. It's something best considered BEFORE you hatch eggs, rather than afterwards when you begin to notice all the little red combs on your chicks.

Engteacher, I see that we both like the same poem!
