Let Mailed Eggs Rest Before Incubation?

I am expecting a shipment of eggs anytime now. I have my incubator ready to go thinking I have to get the eggs into the incubator right away. However I just read that it helps to let the eggs rest overnight before placing them in the incubator. Is this true? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I put mine in an egg carton.. "pointy" side down for at least 12 hours. I like to put mine in the incubator first thing in the morning.. which works since I unpack after I get off work. I do put the egg carton ON TOP of the incubator so they can get used to the location...

And I won't forget to add them.

I read a thread not long ago that they should be stored pointy side UP. I'd really, really like to know which is accurate.

We let ours rest at least a few hours.

i let mine rest for 24 hours to be on the safe side! i did a experiment once. i ordered 4 dozen eggs. all shipped. one dozen would rest for 6 hours. one dozen for 12 hours. one dozen for 18 hours. one dozen for 24 hours. i got the most hatches with the 24 hour one. anything could have happened but still!

Good to know, since I have my first eggs coming this week!

Also, what if you dont have an egg turner? do you just lay them on their sides? and roll them to turn them?

So should you put them in an egg carton to keep the air pocket in the big end?
