Thorsten is a one person dog and my dad and I dont get along sometimes, as well as Thorsten is 7 years old has hip issues and never really liked me anyway as when I was younger my older brother would think it was funny to try and set him on me when the dog was 1-2 years old. I don't mind some grumpiness I just want to find a breed that is generally a friendly dog.
So it was your brother's fault to be honest. Now I know. Thank you.

Was it the case that I talked about Dogo Argentino and Boerboel and things?
Wow your thread is getting long I didn't look back but the first one that caught my eye was Tibetan Mastiff. And I know Caucasian was in the mix.... My thought is that some of these breeds are not only very rare and hard to find (Tibetan and also Leo) if you do get on a breeders 2 year long waiting list, you not only want to wait, you want to pay ALOT of money. And you had better do a lot of training! So that's why I was thinking about more popular breeds you can find in the US.

Losing your Sheltie must have been hard, I'm sorry. I miss my first Sheltie so much to this day. He was my first dog (my Dad had a million Newfies but I got my own Sheltie.) Rogene's Midnight Rondevous... He was winner ⭐

Oh, I wanna do this!! My expectations may be unrealistic, so just let me know if that's the case lol.

What is the purpose of you choosing a dog? Farming? homesteading? inside dog? outside dog? guardian? companion ship? - homesteading/guardian/companionship & inside. I'd love a dog that hunts groundhogs, rabbits and chipmunks, if that's a thing, but not hunt our chickens.

Any livestock? - chickens

Your experience with dogs in general. - I've had a Pomeranian, dachshund and cocker spanial throughout my life. Small dogs just because we used to have a small yard, but now have more space.

Your pet peeves about dogs? - I dislike a ton of hair and my husband can be allergic if there's too much of it. I also don't like dogs that bark a ton, which has been my experience with our pomeranian and dachshund.

The home, land, exercise and attention you are happy to give your dog? I'm home literally all the time. They can run free on 2 acres that's not fenced in (some wooded) and be a part of the family constantly.

Your family size and structure? I've got 3 kiddos, oldest is 8. We homeschool and are working on homesteading.

Do you want to walk your dog in public places like parks off leash? That'd be great! I'd love an obedient dog who cares about rules and boundaries.
Does this dog have any function or reason to be out of your property at anytime ?
or is just the dog that stays in your homestead no matter what?
Any neighbor ? any predator in specific?

Delta ,my 15 years old Sheltie was the first dog in my life that was born, raised and passed way alongside me. Every single other dog back in Iran I lost to theft, poisoning, car accident and such.
Was he special? I don't know. It was for me. He was outdoor dog with 1000 miles recorded hiking under his belt. The computer picked the breed for me.

I had this stupid question about a dog breed that can grow up with me under my supervision and until he dies he never make mistake? is it possible?

Is it possible to not make a huge mistake raising a puppy? what that puppy would look like ? would that puppy that you gave your all to raise him the right way answers your quest by being a perfect dog that never make mistake?

Delta was my quest to answer that question. I made a few very tiny mistakes raising him but nothing serious can notice but he never made a mistake. He proved me in animal world there are some breeds that can be perfect. Down to Dusk of their life. Delta was one of them. He made me proud.
And I started crying again. It is only 15 days I lost him.

No function or reason to be out of our property. Our dog now stays within out property lines without being told, even though we have neighbors on both sides and they both have dogs. I love this characteristic about him.

We have bears and coyotes where we leave.

here is the real question : We all have bears and Coyotes in east coast. From USA to Canada or Mexico but do you think encounter is so possible that you want a dog that can stand his ground against bear? or you want a dog that barks sometimes to let the wild animal know there is a dog there and so they avoid your property?

If you and your neighbors have not had bear attack in the last decade then you do not have bear problem. You just have smart bears who know how to avoid conflict with human.

In that case how about a Rough Collie? They check every box of your expectations.

BTW, your expectations are nothing but realistic and reasonable.

On second note your allergy prone husband make Rough Collie a No and Short hair collie a yes. You can ask your husband to check if he is allergic to Rough Collie. He knows by now on the base of personal experience I guess.

Australian Cattle dog is another breed that worth looking at.

I helped a friend's Dissertation with testing and training litter's of puppies, about 70 different breeds. I feel like you that I not only know almost all dog breeds but I also know something about their dna driven personality traits. But you love what you love. If you or someone else told me that I'm compatible with Saluki's, no offense to Saluki's but I'm sure that I'm never going to get one. I've loved, trained and showed Sheltie's and Newfoundlands my entire life but my forever dog is the Leonberger. I will have Leonberger's til the day I die. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to what you're doing but I think there is very little chance that you'd pick a Leo for me so I just thought I'd give some food for thought about people and their dogs. But have fun, it's an okay idea really and I would find it interesting or even amusing what dog you'd pick for me knowing that I'm opinionated, live on a River, have chickens and Leonbergers, not super old, but not young either😅☮️View attachment 3211726☮️😅
I've had Leonbergers for 22 years! AWESOME BREED!
