Let me see that mix!

The reason why I want some, mainly - is because they seem to go broody quite often, and do a really good job of hatching chicks. Everytime i see a post here about putting eggs under a broody hen, i click and it's a silkie.

Granted, we have a lot of hens go broody a few generations away from a hatchery, but they quit more often than I'd like.

That they do! Although my silkie mix has yet to go broody

This is the only other mix I have atm. I don't have any good quality recent pics of her 😅. And no, I don't have a clue what her mix is...

But you have a crested frizzle! How!?!

We are on our third batch of eggs at the moment, of me trying to achieve a crested (and laced) frizzle! But I have yet to get the crest!

Any idea what was bred together to get that crest? I used a houdan rooster on this last attempt (in the bator) but my trusty polishes have let me down to this point.

That's the frizzle I posted before...
She is 50% sussex the other 50% is the mutt in my pfp. His mix has remained a mystery (and I no longer have him).
Breeds I've had suggested for him were silkie (my own observation), Faverolles, and polish. He was essentially just a mutt though.

I'm going to be be working toward a laced frizzle (non crested) too soon, I am not using Cloud because of the crest (+beard).

Gosh how did I not notice this. It has been a downright obsession with me along with my new quail.

I want get a silkie for so many reasons, but I wear the fact that I have never had one as a badge of honor! They are so designer.

However, in this case - I believe you have harnessed the good qualities 🤣
I feel this way about Cochins. They seem to go broody often and make excellent mamas, but I just can’t handle feathered legs. I have 2 lightly feathered Marans and their legs gross me out enough as it is 😂

Mine are all still babies. My rooster is a white silkie and hens are barnevelder, welsummer, buff Orpington, cream legbar, BYM (black copper marans x Easter egger) and golden cuckoo marans. I have a ton more pictures but don't want to overwhelm the thread lol.
