I have always had chickens growing up but we are a military family and the chicken lifestyle was not an option during that time. My husband is now retired and we bought our own home with more than enough backyard to start our chicken adventure. We got 6 chicks in the end of February. 2 rhode island red 2 barred rock and my 2 kids both picked one out theirselves so we have no idea what type of chicken they are ! They are currently in our garage in a giant dog cage making a mess kicking out shavings every 5 minuets. I have given up on cleaning the shavings surrounding the cage more than once a day. We are starting to build their coop today and finish it up on the weekend. I cant wait for some eggs which cant come soon enough! In total we have 6 dogs 2 cats 2 rats and 6 chickens with hope to add a nigerian dwarf doe with a newly born kid just waiting on one mama to kid a doe. With this whole Corona virus going around life had been crazy to say the least. I am a nurse and my job never ends but I absolutely love what I do every single day. My husband works at a gun shop and in NC since were in the south are deemed essential. The kids are out of school 1st and 4th grade and now we are their teacher after coming home from working all day. It has been a struggle to scramble to find sitters manage our careers and tend to the mini farm we have going on at home. I will be glad when this is all done and over and now I know the reason I sent my children to public school and never wanted to be a teacher. Because I suck at it ! Thank you to all the teachers out there that have the patience to deal with 20 children in a class when I can barely teach my 2. I'll stick with saving lives and helping the sick ! I am so excited we finally have a place to call home and were not moving all over the country every 4 years sometimes with or without my husband. Were ready to live our dream and raise our animals !
