I heard the 'song' from inside the house (weather's cooling off & the windows are open--yay) and I was late getting out to let them out to range (I work nights), so I thought any egg-laying would be done by now. Opened the run gate & they all filed out, except for Lucy. I left her in there & went about doing chores, came back a few minutes later & she was by the gate, so I let her out too. She came out of her own accord & started walking around as if she was on a mission...so I stopped what I was doing & watched. She went straight to the large plastic kennels that I have for the goats, stepped inside & just kind of stood there. So I watched...she didn't sit, but just stood there (kind of like she was flexing her butt-cheeks). So I watched some more, and lo & behold, the miracle of the egg popped out of her butt! How fascinating! Of course, I was beside myself with joy (still am). After that she just kind of rolled it around in the pine shavings until I thought she might have been trying to get it back to the coop, so I went and picked it up. This is, I believe, her 3rd or 4th egg and they are getting to be a good size
Sorry for the long commentation, but it takes so little to amaze/amuse me these days that I had to share!
