I have a chick that's almost 2 months old. He's very small. Just a few days ago he started lagging, his big, glossy rooster-in-training comb became small and pale. I'm treating for cocci right now but I don't think that's the problem. Other than his lethargic attitude and failure to grow, he's pretty normal. But I did notice that he is much squishier than his siblings. During this stage I've noticed my chicks tend to be gangly and their keels stick out to some extent (not to the point of starvation, but their muscles just haven't filled out yet)... but he's very pudgy, which I find odd. I'm really baffled. Any tips?

No bugs, keel muscling is good, and he's eating and pooping normally but still failing to grow and thrive. I don't know how I missed it earlier, but I noticed to other day that his feathers are not growing in. His tail is just starting to show. His brothers of the same age and parents have big tails growing.

I'm going to have to cull him soon if I can't figure something out.

I hate to see him suffer, it puts a damper on the whole day.

He doesn't sound like he's in pain, just taking longer to develop, so I'm confused about the "suffering"part.
Some poultry vitamins might give him a boost and some grit & yoghurt in his feed couldn't hurt either.......

Well, he's not in pain, but he clearly isn't doing well. He just sits in corner fluffed up all day long and he has difficulty walking. So I know he's not feeling well, and I just don't think it's right to let an animal linger in poor health.

I agree. A tough decision, it always is. Maybe try the vitamins & yoghurt , etc. If that doesn't help, then, I'm sorry you have to face culling him.......
