I have a 4 month old americana who has been acting lethargic and sluggish for about 3 days now. When we first noticed her, she was laying in a corner of the coop with two other chickens laying around her. That day she could hardly stand on her own and wouldn't move on her own. We separated her from her flock and have her in a separate coop all alone. She seems to be pooping and does seem to drink when you hold heard near the water and dribble some on her beak. She is eating some food, but pretty much lays down next to the bowl while eating. She seems to want to perch all the time and sleep. I can pick her up and hold her, and she hardly resist. She doesn't seem to have any drainage from her eyes or beak. She is an extremely beautiful bird and I don't want to lose her. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If she can't stand because she is weak, I might consider giving her Corid for possible coccidiosis, but if she is having problems standing or is limping, she may be showing signs of possible Mareks disease. It could be many things such as worms, lice or mites, or a possible gizzard obstruction, but you may need to look at her poops, and give her some scrambled eggs to try and find out what is going on. Poisoning could also be a possibility. Here is alink about coccidiosis, and she doesn't have to have blood in the stool for it to be cocci: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/12/coccidiosis-what-backyard-chicken.html

She looks very pretty like some of my easter eggers. They usually have that color pattern. Does she have greenish legs? The eggs I would offer her may be eaten before other foods--with very sick chickens, if they won't eat eggs, they are really sick. They're also very good for protein.

She does have greenish legs. I did offer her the eggs. She doesn't seem too hungry, but I was able to get some in her and got her to drink a little water mixed with Corid. We will just have to see what happens. Thank you for your help. I will keep you posted.
