I have a three week old barred rock baby and she has a clear mucus that is occasionally coming out of her mouth. She seems lethargic and sleepy. She is one of 13 babies and she is the only one who seems sick. I fear it may be my fault because she is such a lovey bird so I take her out all of the time and let her follow me around. She has diarrhea and just wants to curl up near my neck and sleep. She seemed interested in tasting a blueberry but when I put her in with the others she goes into a corner and stays there. I have been reading for hours and I'm thinking maybe an impacted crop? Maybe she ate something off the carpet that made her sick? I feel awful. I love her. She is the sweetest bird and she seems to genuinely love me back. She coos and jumps on my hand every time I feed and water the rest. The mucus, loose stool and lethargy are the only things I've noticed. Any ideas anyone?

I looked over those illnesses. She isn't wheezing, coughing or gasping for air. I put some apple cider vinegar in their water and changed all the bedding and food. I also rubbed some Vet RX on her beak a little while ago. I put her down and she went right for the food and water and started scratching around in the pen. That seems like a good sign, right? I made an appointment tomorrow for her to see a vet. I was surprised how hard it was to find an avian vet being that I live in the country, but I think I'm just going to take her anyway. I lost one two year old bird who was so very sweet about a month ago and I'm still not over it. I can't loose another.

Should she be separated from the others? They have been together for a few weeks now already. I got the barred rock hens and 8 new babies about a week later. They have all been happily living together for about two weeks. Nobody else looks sick. Everyone is pooping and eating and drinking...oh and peeping too.

I have isolated her so I can keep an eye on her droppings. She is seeming to alternate between regular poops and loose light brown stools. I gave her apple cider vinegar water with a few drops of VetRX in it. I didn't give her food though in case her crop is impacted.

All better thanks to all the nice people here. No vet trip needed!
