Our 1 year old Buff Orpington, Chicken Nugget (named by our son), has been lethargic this morning, and consistently falling asleep standing up. She’s following the flock around slowly, but falls asleep as they eat, and then moves on to catch up with them and just stands there asleep. Yesterday she was completely fine and acting normal. All the other birds are still acting normal as well.
She’s usually one of our heaviest and most active and is still at a normal weight for her.
I can’t think of what would have caused this, except that my kids said they fed the chickens each a cherry yesterday, and I’m worried the pit may have done something to them (I’m not sure whether they ate the pit or not, but I assume so since they usually swallow grapes whole).
I’ve been holding her for the last hour and she’s breathing fine, but just sleepy unless she hears a sound and wakes up for a minute. She just pooped, so I’ve included a picture of that. She also just ate some soldier worms I gave her.
I’m trying to decide whether to bring her into an avian vet, but the nearest one is an hour away, and I don’t know if the drive would stress her more.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
